One good turn begets another

On our regular weekend return drive to our home from my brother’s we glided down the curving butter smooth one lane local road. Wrapped in silence, lost in thoughts both of us caught the driver on the opposing lane blink his headlights for a second on his way past us. Wondering what he was trying to warn us of and slowing down automatically we saw the unmarked police car hidden and out of sight in one of the feeder roads. Past the cop we looked at each other and smiled. A moment of shared thoughts.

A few yards further was a convoy of vehicles on the opposing lane crossing us. It was our turn to blink the lights and pass on what we knew. Silent and almost conspiratorial we went on. As we neared home, I couldn’t help but wonder at this secret rite all through the U.S. The feeling of wanting to pass on the good deed. Knowing someone else was going to do it as well.

Isn’t it funny how simple things like this reminds us great philosophies?

Incidently,.. I have just written a post on Random Act of Kindness on my blog,. and couldn’t believe it when I stopped here this morning to see the theme somewhat reflected on your blog too. There’s definitely something new in the air :)

  2. I also immediately thought of Spillay had written in her blog and wanted to mention it.

See now only I realize this secret code. We have come across many occassions like this, me and my hubby used to wonder why they were blinking the headlights. Now I know the reason.

  3. We too have only experienced that since coming here to the U.S. In Singapore, people were too busy trying to escape that they wouldn’t bother warning the drivers behind. Culture is such an important thing.
